Project management and coordination

Objectives

  • To conduct an efficient project management process, which ensures that the work is performed following the Description of the Action (DoA)
  • To ensure the required quality and time schedules are achieved throughout the entire project duration
  • To ensure appropriate risk monitoring, detection and application of proper mitigation measures
  • To ensure the fulfillment of the partners’ obligations towards the (European Union) EU from the legal, financial and administrative perspective
  • To effectively manage communication between the consortium and the EU
  • To communicate, disseminate and exploit the project results ensuring this is done in compliance with security and confidentiality obligations
  • To maximize the impact of the project results ensuring exploitability by end-users and integration with previous and ongoing pertinent R&D activities in the defense and civil sectors

Multirole Drone Guard system definition

Objectives

  • To define, with the support of the Advisory Board (AB), the use cases in terms of specific missions to be addressed by the Drone Guard system, intended as a System of Systems (Sy-o-Sy)
  • To derive high-level Sy-o-Sy requirements and constraints
  • To define demonstration scenarios to prove the effectiveness of the technologies developed by EAGLES

UAV mothership feasibility study and concept

Objectives

  • Assessment of concept feasibility of the whole Sy-o-Sy
  • Definition of the requirements for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) mothership mission
  • Trade-off analysis at system level of the UAV mothership drone performance, by dedicated feasibility studies
  • Conceptual development, at system level, of the UAV mothership architecture

UAV mothership conceptual design of sub-systems

Objectives

  • To perform the conceptual design of the sub-systems of the UAV mothership studying the aerodynamic performances, the loads and the propulsion system to manage the configuration of the vehicle and make a concept of the primary structure
  • To define the avionics architecture and Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) software for the autonomous flight
  • To define the dedicated flight- and mission-related sensors suite, including air drop and recovery of mini-drones
  • To conceive the data-link system, from both hardware and software points of view
  • To perform an ex-post final assessment of architecture (and performance) with the aim to evaluate the technological gaps

Design studies of enabling technologies for mission management

Objectives

  • To define the Requirements for the management of swarm of mini-drones
  • To study the different architectures by means of a trade-off analysis with respect to the expected mission performance
  • To design the data link subsystem
  • To design the sensing subsystem with related algorithms
  • To study and design the protocols of coordination and mission management
  • To study and design the GNC algorithm for retreat and rendezvous

Proofs of concepts

Objectives

  • Define the requirements of the demonstration
  • Design a simplified test scenario foreseeing the use of commercial mini-drones suitably adapted for the purpose of EAGLES project
  • Adaptation of commercial mini-drones for the scope of EAGLES
  • Implementation of ground station and data link
  • Set-up of the test campaign and post-process and analysis of the data.
